About This Intervention

Access to safe water, basic sanitation, and good hygiene practices is fundamental to good nutrition. Poor WASH conditions are a leading cause of diarrhea, intestinal worms, and environmental enteric dysfunction—all of which impair a child's ability to absorb nutrients and lead to undernutrition, stunting, and wasting . Our WASH in Nutrition (WASH in Nut) intervention tackles this by integrating water, sanitation, and hygiene activities directly into our nutrition programs. By improving the house

Program Objectives

  • Reduce WASH-Related Disease Burden: To decrease the incidence of diarrheal diseases among children under five in target communities by 40% within two years
  • Integrate WASH and Nutrition Services: To ensure that 80% of families enrolled in ACEFANUT's nutrition programs also receive comprehensive WASH behavior change communication, creating a holistic approach that addresses the immediate and underlying causes

Key Achievements

  • Sanitation Access: Facilitated the construction of over 1,200 improved household latrines and 50 community handwashing stations in rural DRC and Uganda, significantly reducing open defecation in program areas.
  • Health Impact: In the first year of implementation, communities reported a 35% reduction in child diarrhea episodes, leading to fewer clinic visits and improved overall well-being, directly supporting the goals of our Primary Healthcare intervention.
